Director Harry Bicket is world-renowned as an opera and concert conductor of distinction. He is the Artistic Director of The English Concert and an accomplished harpsichordist.

Mad Hatter Fri June 1, 2012 at Music Institute of ChicagoBaroque Band’s season closes with one of the most strikingly original works of the Baroque repertoire, Rebel’s bold final work, the ballet Les Elemens. Complementing Rebel’s chaotic opening, the program also includes Handel’s grand Concerto Grosso Op 3 No 2 and Telemann’s Ouverture des nations anciens et modernes.

Jeff and Hunter, two struggling writers, hear about a new musical theatre festival. However, the deadline for submissions is a mere three weeks away. With nothing to lose, the pair decides to try to create something new with the help of their friends Susan, Heidi and Larry on the eighty-eights. With the cast in place, Jeff and Hunter begin a conversation about what to write about. Eventually, Jeff suggests they write about what to write about. They make a pact to write up until the festival’s deadline and dream about the show changing their lives.

 

The shows and categories nominated include:

  • The Outgoing Tide include Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best New Work, Best Sound Design, and Best Production of a Play.

Name that tune (video)

Ok, even though this is a commercial it kind of represents much of what I like about Japan. Not just the beautiful mountains covered in pine and mist, but the producing of something creative, employing a craft like woodwork, a precise attention to detail, patience and diligence in making each piece sound the correct tone. It speaks to me of traditional Japanese attributes still being utilized in a modern world. How the heck did I get all that from a commercial.

Corky Siegel has earned an international reputation as one of the world’s great blues harmonica masters. He is a composer, blues pianist, singer / songwriter, and recent winner of the Lila Wallace/Reader’s Digest/Meet the Composer’s national award for chamber music composition and the Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award for Music Composition.
